Etowah's Thomas wins gold in 100-meter dash at 5A state meet


GULF SHORES — An Etowah high school track athlete became a state champion at the Class 5A boys state track meet during the weekend at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores.

Lamar Thomas was the state champion in the boys 100-meter dash. He also won a bronze medal and third place in the 200-meter dash.

The track team earned multiple medals at the meet. 

The 4x100-meter relay team of Thomas, Trey Parker, Tevin Peterson and Detavise Glover finished as the silver medalists and state runner-up in

their event. 

Etowah coach Blake Hudson said Thomas is the Blue Devils’ first state track champion since the team’s rebirth and growth when he took over in 2008.

The Blue Devils finished ninth overall at the meet with 24 points.
