Bishop, Glencoe win at Yellow Jacket Invitational

GLENCOE — Glencoe won both the team and individual portions of the 2014 Yellow Jacket Invitational girls high school golf tournament held Friday at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Silver Lakes.
Glencoe, the hosts of the tournament, won the 15-team event. The Yellow Jackets’ Hope Bishop took low-medalist honors out of the 72-player field.
For the day, Bishop carded an 81 to finish with an eight-stroke win over White Plains’ Morgan Prickett. Only 11 players were able to keep their scores below triple digits on a windy day on the links.
Leigh Allison Reaves of Boaz finished with a 90, one shot back of Prickett for third place. Grissom’s Taleigh Broach came in fourth with a score of 91. Prickett’s teammate Micaela Truett, had a 93 to claim fifth place.
Fort Payne’s Elle Patterson carded a 94 for sixth place. The Yellow Jackets’ Madison Cole tied with Brooks’ Anna Fassmacht in seventh place with a score of 97. A teammate of Broach, McKenzie Turner, took ninth place at 98. Finishing off the top 10 were Sydney Fairchild of Westbrook Christian and Kayla James of Arab. Each totaled a 99.
Also competing for the Yellow Jackets were Madison Autwell and Lauren Cole. Hope Cone, Natalie Echeverri and Gracie Guyton participated for the Warriors.
Ashley McCormick, Cassie Davis, Gabrielle Metz, Jordan Reavis and Kaylee Howell represented Southside. Participating as individuals were Hokes Bluff’s Tayler Bullock and Amber Bigelow and Coosa Christian’s Savannah Hughes.
In the team standings, Glencoe put up a score of 280 to finish ahead of White Plains, which carded a 283. Westbrook took third place with a 303. Grissom totaled a 307 to take fourth place. Rounding out the top five was Arab at 317.
