Totally Tuff Tennis wins championships

The Gadsden-based Totally Tuff Tennis junior tennis teams recently won area and state championships.
Ages ranging from 8 years old to 18 years old competed in both tournaments.
The 10-year-old intermediate and 14-year-old intermediate teams both won state championships in Auburn and will represent Alabama in the sectional championship event next month.
The teams won second place in the 18-year-old intermediate and beginners divisions, the 10-year-old beginners division and the 8-year-old beginners and intermediates divisions. The 18-year-old intermediate team also will participate in the sectional championships as a wild card.
The 14-year-old beginners and 12-year-old intermediate teams each took home third place in the state event.
“This is our third year in a row to have teams return as state champions,” coach Mark Dayton said. “I am so proud of all the players, coaches, and parents in our tennis family.
“For a group this large to go down and win this big at states is unheard of. Everyone played their hearts out from our youngest 4-year-old to our most senior 18-year-old, the support was there for everyone to do this well. All of our training paid off.”
