Piedmont All-Stars win state tournament


The Piedmont 10-and-under softball all-star team won the 2013 ARPA state championship during a tournament held in Gadsden on July 19 and 20.

Piedmont opened the tournament with a 6-5, comeback win over Russellville on July 19. The first game on July 20 saw Piedmont score nine unanswered runs to pick up a 9-2 victory over Coosa Valley. It then advanced to the championship game with an 11-1, three-inning win over Red Bay.

The Red Bay all-stars reached the championship through the losers bracket, but Piedmont again dominated them, 12-0 in three innings.

Piedmont hit .447 for the event. Abbey Steward was the winning pitcher in all four games. Other team members were Madison Byers, Kayley Kirk, Madison Brown, Haleigh Molock, Reese Franklin, Emily Farmer, Macy Reedy, Autumn Sides and Kylie-Grace Wood. The coaches were Scooter Franklin, Johnny Reedy and Brandon Steward.
