SAND ROCK — Southside assistant baseball coach Tyler Driskell is the new Sand Rock baseball coach.
Driskell was hired Tuesday by the Cherokee County Board of Education. It’s the second head coaching job for Driskell, who as a player helped Southside win the 2001 Class 5A state title.
He was head coach at Chattooga (Ga.) High School prior to serving as an assistant for Clay-Chalkville for two years, before serving as an assistant for Southside the past two seasons. Driskell played for two seasons at Gadsden State after graduating from Southside High. He then went on to Berry College in Rome, Ga., and was named an NAIA All-American as a junior, and played independent ball in Ohio following his time at Berry before returning home to attend Jacksonville State and helping coach the Panthers for two seasons before taking the job in Georgia.
Driskell, who will teach elementary physical education and health at Sand Rock, is the third head coach in as many seasons with the Wildcat program.
