Cedar Bluff sweeps Addison, gains 1A semifinals


CEDAR BLUFF — Class 1A, No.7 Cedar Bluff swept Addison, 9-8 and 10-0 in five innings, in high school baseball quarterfinal play Friday.

Austin McCullough recorded the win in the opener, pitching six innings, striking out eight and allowing five hits. Curtis Abernathy got the save, striking out two in the seventh inning.

The game was tied at 4 in the sixth inning before Addison hit a grand slam to go ahead 8-4.

The Tigers then scored five runs in the sixth to go up for good, 9-8.

Ricky Pendley had a big game at the plate going 3 for 4, while Perry went 2 for 2.

In the nightcap, Gilreath pitched five innings, giving up no hits with five strikeouts, to get the win. Kaleb Clark had a three-run homer. Cosby had a double and two RBI. Gilreath had two singles and a pair of RBI, while Abernathy had a double and two RBI.

Cedar Bluff (21-13) will face the winner of the South Lamar/No. 2 Shoals Christian series in the semifinals.
