No. 3 Warriors win Cherokee County tournament


CENTRE — Class 4A, No. 3 Cherokee County won the county tournament Friday. The event originally scheduled to play from Thursday to today as a double elimination tournament was altered to a single-elimination format and was played in one day due to weather concerns.

In the opener, the Warriors (12-1) beat Gaylesville 21-3. They next topped Spring Garden 10-0. 2A, No. 6 Sand Rock topped Cedar Bluff 8-3 to set up a title game between ranked squads.

In the championship tilt, Cherokee County beat the Wildcats 5-0.

For the tournament, Madison Millsaps had three hits (including a homer), three runs scored and three RBI for the Warriors. Tori Davis totaled three hits, one run scored and three RBI. Madison Brannon amassed three hits, one run scored and one RBI. Molly Brewer collected two hits, three runs scored and one RBI. Darbie Rosser contributed two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Jessen Burk helped out with two hits and two runs scored. Kayle Moon chipped in with a homer, two runs scored and three RBI.

Davis pitched nine innings on the day, allowing four hits, no runs and no walks while striking out 16. Magen Rich threw one inning with no hits allowed.
