CEDAR BLUFF — No. 5 Cedar Bluff spotted Phillips of Bear Creek an early touchdown, but the Tigers rolled from there in a 54-20 pounding of the Bears in the first round of the Class 1A state high school football playoffs Friday.
After quarterback Rodney Camp put Phillips (5-6) ahead 6-0 with a 68-yard touchdown pass, Cedar Bluff (10-0) ran off 41 straight points for a 41-6 lead at halftime.
D’Shawn Fife scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the first half, while Levi Mintz passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Tigers built a 35-point advantage at the break.
Both scored two touchdowns in the second half, but the Tigers were never in any danger of allowing the Bears back in the game.
Cedar Bluff hosts No. 8 Pickens County next week in the second round of the playoffs.
