Mintz tops Week 10 Dirty Dozen

Cedar Bluff hasn’t faced a lot of adversity in the 2012 high school football season.

The Tigers have outscored opponents 431-122, and starting quarterback Levi Mintz rarely has to play an entire game.

That wasn’t the case Friday.

Mintz, a senior quarterback, engineered a fourth quarter drive and found DeAngelo Hardy for the game-winning touchdown in a 34-28 victory over county rival Sand Rock.

Mintz passed for 310 yards and five scores in the win to help secure the Tigers’ sixth perfect regular season at 9-0. For his effort, Mintz was named the top player in The Gadsden Times’ Dirty Dozen for Week 10.

Here’s a look at the rest of this week’s Dirty Dozen:

2. Randy Blackwell, Fyffe

The running back carried 19 times for 162 yards and scored five touchdowns (68, 4, 5, 4, 12 yards) in a 49-20 victory over the rival Plainview Bears.

3. DeAngelo Hardy, Cedar Bluff

The senior wide receiver had a big game, making four catches for 151 yards and three touchdowns — including the game-winner — in the Tigers’ 34-28 win over Sand Rock.

4. Leo Aragon, Boaz

The Pirate kicker was a finalist for the ASWA Player of the Week after kicking the game-winning 20-yard field goal to beat rival Sardis 38-35 in a wild back-and-forth contest.

5. Jonathan Ford, Westbrook

The senior quarterback led the Class 2A Warriors past 4A Hokes Bluff 28-21 with 181 yards passing, 113 yards rushing and three touchdowns in The Times’ Game of the Week.

6. Peyton Gilliland, Boaz

Rushed for 200 yards and two scores in Boaz’s 35-35 victory over Sardis.

7. Jake Maddox, Geraldine

Passed for 201 yards and three touchdowns in Geraldine’s win over Crossville.

8. LaGerald Malone, Gadsden City

Caught a 20-yard TD pass and rushed for a 31-yard score in the Titans’ win.

9. Forrest Livingston, Spring Garden

Rushed for 172 yards and a score to go along with a 15-yard TD reception in the Panthers’ 26-20 win over Talladega County Central.

10. Austin Mills, Coosa Christian

Led the Conquerors to their fourth straight win with 198 yards rushing and three TDs in a 37-0 victory over Southeastern.

11. Michael Davis, Geraldine

Carried the ball 12 times for 141 yards and scored three touchdowns to help lead the Bulldogs to a victory over rival Crossville.

12. C.J. Jones, Collinsville

Despite falling 33-28 to White Plains, the quarterback completed 20 of 36 passes for 312 yards and a 35-yard TD.
