KIM CRAFT: Keeling, Southside win Week 8 online polls

Fans picked Southside and the Panthers’ all-purpose back Holt Keeling as winners of The Gadsden Times’ online team and player of the week high school football polls at gtpreps.com when voting ended Tuesday.
Keeling got 1,236 votes for 76.6 percent and ran away with the player of the week vote for his Week 8 efforts, much the way the sophomore runs away from defenses out of a wing spot in the Panther offense.
Southside took the team of the week vote in a closer race, as the Panthers garnered 1,201 votes (49.3 percent) to finish ahead of Westbrook Christian with 1,101 (45.2 percent) votes.
Keeling caught a touchdown pass and ran for the game-winning score with 16 seconds left in Southside’s 27-26 Class 5A, Region 7 win over Etowah in The Gadsden Times’ Game of the Week on Friday night.
Sand Rock’s Chandler Mackey and Gadsden City’s CJ Moore claimed 164 votes apiece and tied for the runner-up spot in the player poll.
Mackey ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns to go along with an interception on defense in Sand Rock’s 28-13 win over West End. Moore threw for 122 yards, rushed for 70 more and accounted for three touchdowns in Gadsden City’s 47-23 win over Grissom.
Fort Payne’s Luke Jennings finished fourth, followed by Geraldine’s Michael Davis.Jennings ran three times for 70 yards and two touchdowns and caught a pair of passes for 74 yards and another score in Fort Payne’s 49-12 win over Brewer. Davis rushed for 115 yards and four touchdowns in Geraldine’s 55-28 region-title clinching victory over J.B. Pennington.
Piedmont took third place in the team poll, while Gadsden City and Coosa Christian rounded out the voting, respectively.
Keep in mind, the online polls at gtpreps.com are strictly a fan vote, and multiple votes by the same user are allowed every 12 hours. Votes cast are not automatically updated and shown , but should be able to be viewed in totals 15 minutes after being made.
To vote in the Times’ online player and team polls each week, log on to www.gtpreps.com/polls. The polls will be posted before midnight Friday when possible or can be accessed early Saturday morning. The polls close at noon each Tuesday.

gtpreps.com. The website also is the place to see the latest headlines and region standings for teams.
