The Gaston Bulldogs and Randolph County Tigers tangle tonight in Wedowee.
Gaston, who has been
a Class 1A school the last six years, moved up to 2A in the offseason and face a strong challenge in Randolph County.
The Tigers are coming off a 6-4 season, and plenty of
Rico Nelson and Colton Lovvorn are solid running backs, while quarterback Ty Sparks and wide receiver Willis Knight are expected to light up the scoreboard.
Gaston, who is gunning for its 11th straight playoff appearance, will look to quarterback Shai Ogles and running back Braxton Collins to help the Bulldogs overcome some defections in the offseason. Gaston lost five players from last season who either transferred or decided they no longer wanted to play.
That leaves coach Josh Averett looking for others to step up to help Gaston have a successful start to the 2012 season.
Jackson Bogle (tight end) and Destin Pollard (wide receiver) are two solid threats for Ogles and the Bulldogs.
