Mayo leads West End boys to victory over Ohatchee

RAINBOW CITY — Junior guard Caleb Mayo netted a game-high 23 points to help lead the West End Patriots to a 69-49 win over the Ohatchee Indians on Tuesday evening in the Class 2A, Area 13 tournament at Westbrook Christian.
The win was the second in a row for the Patriots against the Indians. West End picked up a 62-35 win over Ohatchee on Jan. 13.
West End started the game off strong, powering to an 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Patriots then outscored Ohatchee in the second quarter 17-6 to take a 35-13 lead into halftime. Despite the Indians outscoring the Patriots in the third quarter 17-11, West End held on to lead 46-30 at the end of three and cruised to the victory.
Raymond Chapman, also a junior, added 15 points for the Patriots, who improved to 10-19 on the season. Chase Blanton and Anthony Moody both scored 10 points in the win.
For the Indians, Dylan Parker netted 19 points to lead the team. Caleb Pice followed with 15 points.
The win advanced West End to Friday’s semifinal round. The Patritos will take on host Westbrook at 7:30 p.m.
